The way the choices are set out has an effect on why so many students opt for a paddling. At my high school, a student who got ISS or Saturday detention could not participate in extra curricular events that week and also might not be eligible for national honor society or other groups. If you took swats, that didn’t apply and it was over with.

The one time I was in trouble in high school, I did not want to mess up my record and kicked out og the honor society or miss a softball tournament. So I took a paddling for the vice principal instead of ISS for skipping off campus at lunch.

I don’t know if I would have opted for the swats otherwise. Like others have said though, a paddling was probably the most effective punishment I could have received at the time. I can definitely say I never seriously considered skipping off campus again or doing anything else to wind up in the vice principal’s office.

The deterrent affect is both from the pain and the embarassment. I still remember the smirks on the faces of the office staff, some not that much older than me, when I came out of the office trying not to cry after getting paddled. The intense pain went away pretty quickly, but I was sore for quite some time.

Where I come from in the bible belt, corporal punishment was part of the culture. If you complained about getting paddled, the response would be like: “Of course it hurts, girl. That’s the whole point. Remember that next time . . . “

Wanting321 – i dont know where i can vent my frustration on, so decided to talk abt it in this forum, at least this is women forum. i am already 16 years old but my mum still canes me because i get poor results.. i am aching now.. i know she meant well but i am already 16 i dont understand why she still use the cane on me.. her expectations are so high.. for each subject i fail i have to endure 3 strokes of the cane.. nothing i can do.. hopefully i pass all subjects next time =( i endured 12 strokes in total because i failed 4 subjects =( failed maths,geography,combined humans and english… some of them are really very difficult. yes my mom set the rule of 3strokes/subject failed.. i told her to stop caning me but she say cannot=( my bottom is sore and covered with cane lines..

Dietgal – Honestly, 12 strokes is not a lot, my mother used to cane us at least 5 times more than that!

Blackeff – I get caned a lot when I was 15-16 for not behaving like a lady so c’om babe, maybe you should start really studying well (perhaps behaving and act like the lady or woman your mom hopes you can be as well). I am sure she caned you for the sake of love that she wants you to be outstanding. When we misbehave, we got to be put back in perspective…
